Classification of Orthopaedic Implant

Orthopaedic implant are the core of orthopaedic medicine. They are implanted into the human body by surgery, used to fix, replace damaged bones or assist in treatment, so as to restore bone function, promote healing, relieve pain and improve patients’ quality of life.

The materials are mostly metals, metal alloys or polymer materials. Because they are directly implanted into the human body and related to life safety, they are classified as Class III medical devices by the Regulations for the Supervision and Administration of Medical Devices.
